The second quarter of 2010 was marked by new co-operation agreements being signed with internationally renowned partners such as the French Development Agency, Handicap International, Doctors of the World and the Mérieux Foundation.

On 18th June 2010, on the request of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and in the presence of H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover, the Principality celebrated World Refugee Day (see insert at the bottom of the page about this event).

June 2010 - Prince Albert II of Monaco visits a sports centre for underprivileged youth in Cape Town
On 12th June 2010, H.S.H. Prince Albert II visited a community sports centre located in Gugulethu, South Africa. The centre, the goal of which is to reinforce youth education, is the result of a partnership between the Government of Monaco, the United Nations Development Programme and the city of Cape Town.

June 2010 - Madagascar - Initial results of the programme to combat the vulnerability of women and children
One year after the signing of the cooperation agreement between Monaco, Andorra, the WFP and the UNFPA to support women and children in the Madagascan Deep South, the initial results are extremely encouraging. By the beginning of 2010, thanks to its activities to prevent malnutrition, the WFP had already provided aid to over 92,000 pregnant or breastfeeding women and children under the age of two.

June 2010 - Monaco Collectif Haiti to fund the building of a school in Port-au-Prince
From the 3 projects presented by the Monegasque Delegation on a visit to Haiti from 21st to 25th April 2010, Monaco Collectif Haiti has chosen to support the building of a nursery and primary school for 500 children in Port au Prince. Much of the 850,000 € raised so far will be used for this project, soon to be implemented.

18th June - World Refugee Day - Titouan Lamazou Exhibition “Refugee and displaced women of Africa”
April – Hospital partnership
The CHPG has accepted two house doctors from Mali and Madagascar within its gastroenterology and medical imaging departments as well as a Nigerian operating theatre nurse. These placements are part of the “long-term training programme” set up for health care staff working in public hospitals in the Monegasque Cooperation’s partner countries.
 
 
May 2010 - Senegal – Solar panels for a more efficient conservation of the bilharziasis vaccine
The Monegasque Cooperation and the NGO “Espoir Pour la Santé” have just signed an agreement whose purpose is to set up the optimum research conditions for the conservation of the bilharziasis vaccine, "Bilhvax 3". The agreement falls within the scope of the medical research partnership conducted with INSERM since 2008, the goal of which is to test the effectiveness of the vaccine. The project includes the installation of solar panels to ensure the maintenance of the cold chain within the laboratory.

May 2010 - Morocco - The monegasque cooperation, a partner of handicap international
Since 2004, the Monegasque Cooperation has lent support to individuals in Morocco suffering a disability. A new partnership with the association Handicap International has recently been signed. Financial support from the Principality will go towards supporting 3 associations working to improve the living conditions of the disabled and to ensure that their dignity and basic rights are respected.

May 2010 - Lebanon – Integration programme for Iraqi refugees
The Monegasque Cooperation and the Institut Européen de Coopération et de Développement (IECD) have just signed a partnership agreement in order to bring to a successful end a project for social, educational and economic integration geared towards a hundred or so Iraqi refugee families in Lebanon.

7th April - 60th edition of World Health Day
In 2010, the Monegasque cooperation is allocating 5M€ to projects relating to the health sector. In Africa, thanks to the various programmes it has implemented, over 870,000 people in some of the world's most underprivileged regions now have access to health care.
4th April - International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.
Depuis 2003, Monaco apporte un soutien financier au Centre Croate d'Action contre les Mines qui a déjà permis de déminer. Deux nouveaux partenariats permettront de déminer 49.000 m² supplémentaires et de soutenir un centre pour enfants mutilés physiquement ou psychologiquement créé par l'association croate MARE.
 
 
April 2010 - New partnership between the Monegasque Cooperation, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation & the French Development Agency
Mr Jean-Michel Severino, Director General of the French Development Agency (AFD), in the presence of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, will be signing a framework partnership agreement with the Principality of Monaco and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. The purpose of the agreement is to provide a framework for future partnerships: project co-funding, the development of technical, scientific and methodological co-operation, in addition to the organisation of conferences and round tables.

April 2010 - The President of the Mérieux Foundation visits the Principality
Mr Alain Mérieux, President of the Mérieux Foundation, visited the Principality on 31st March 2010. During his visit, he held a private audience with H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and visited the Princess Grace Hospital. Partnership opportunities in the field of public health were explored at a working session with the Department of External Relations.

April 2010 - Installation of doctors in the rural areas of Madagascar
The support programme for the NGO Santé Sud enabled 4 new general practitioners to set up practices in the rural areas of Madagascar. Each practitioner covers a population area of 6 000 to 10 000 people and treats over 2 400 patients every year.

World Refugee Day

On Friday 18th June 2010, in the presence of H.R.H. the Princess of Hannover and H.E. the Minister of State, Monaco celebrated World Refugee Day.

In her opening address, H.R.H. the Princess of Hannover stressed the importance of the partnership between the Government of Monaco and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

This partnership has just been reinforced by the accession of Monaco to the New York protocol of 1967 and the signing of a framework cooperation agreement between the Principality represented by H.E. Mr Franck Biancheri and the HCR, represented by Mr Francisco Galindo-Vélez.
