Dear partners, dear readers,

This summer was marked by the appalling refugee and migrant crisis in Europe. To address this situation, Monaco responded on its own scale by welcoming refugee families to the Principality and by providing financial support for programmes implemented by civil society and specialised UN agencies.

With the United Nations 70th anniversary recently being celebrated, we have seen significant progress made towards a more dignified and more equitable world. Therefore, we are delighted that seven of the Monegasque Cooperation’s intervention countries have achieved the hunger reduction goal (MDG n°1)..

In 2015, 800 million people across the globe still live in extreme poverty with an income of less than 1.25 dollar a day, 16,000 children die every day before their fifth birthday, and 38 million young Africans are unemployed*.

The adoption of a new roadmap by the United Nations, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) should enable us to rise to the many challenges ahead in order to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and guarantee prosperity for all.

The Office of International Cooperation is thus continuing its actions related to these human-centred goals: health, education and socio-economic integration.

I hope you enjoy reading this issue.
